Morning program (wheat):

  • 8:15 – 9:00 am – Booths and breakfast
  • 8:55 – 9:00 am – Welcome – Mayor of Crete – Dave Bauer, Nebraska Wheat Board – Royce Schaneman, and Nebraska Extension – Nathan Mueller
  • 9:00 – 9:30 am – UNL wheat breeding program update – Katherine Frels, UNL Small Grains Breeder and Assistant Professor.
  • 9:30 – 10:00 am – Wheat fungicide seed treatments – Stephen Wegulo, Nebraska Extension Plant Pathologists, presented on his behalf by Nathan Mueller, Nebraska Extension Water and Cropping Systems Extension Educator.
  • 10:00 – 10:30 am – Wheat Management in Northeast and North-Central Kansas, Part 1 – Romulo Lollato, K-State Extension Wheat and Forage Specialist
  • 10:30 – 11:00 am- Exhibitor booths on display & farmer respirator fit tests (prior medical exam/questionnaire needed and bring your respirator)
  • 11:00 – 11:30 am – Wheat Management in Northeast and North-Central Kansas, Part 2 – Romulo Lollato, K-State Extension Wheat and Forage Specialist
  • 11:30 – Noon – Round Table Discussion on local wheat production – John Nelson, Nebraska Extension Water & Cropping Systems Extension Educator

Noon – 1:00 pm – City Slicker’s Bar & Grill from Dorchester (chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes & gravy, corn, and a roll). Exhibitor booths on display & farmer respirator fit tests (bring your respirator)

Afternoon program (Alfalfa):

  • 1:00 – 1:30 pm – Alfalfa variety selection and planting dates – Daren Redfearn, Nebraska Extension Forage/Crop Residue Specalist
  • 1:30 – 2:00 pm – Nebraska alfalfa aphids: ID & Management – Bob Wright, Nebraska Extension Field Crops Entomology Specialist
  • 2:00 – 2:30 pm – Alfalfa weevil insecticide trials – Matheus Ribeiro, UNL Entomology Post Doctoral Research Associate
  • 2:30 – 3:00 pm – Alfalfa as a protein supplement for fall calving cows – Connor Biehler, Nebraska Extension Livestock Systems Educator
  • 3:00 – 3:30 – Door prize drawings, booths, respirator fit test (bring your respirator), and A&W root beer floats

Attendee Registration

The Expo is free to attend including lunch from City Slicker’s Bar and Grill, but pre-registration is requested by August 22. Pre-registration is requested so we can plan for enough food/drink for breakfast, lunch, and A&W root beer floats. However, walk-in traffic is allowed.
